System integration

The role of the System Integration Platform is to bring together individual components to create complex neurotechnology systems. The platform fits between pre-clinical analysis and full clinical trials in humans, guiding Wyss Center projects on their journey from concept to market.

Cutting edge systems being developed by the Wyss center require technology to sense or activate the nervous system, sophisticated materials for implantation or application to the body, algorithms and electronics to operate them, and a team to ensure interoperability of the entire system.

The platform includes electronic and mechanical workshops and robotics as well as technical support and equipment to allow full assessment of integrated neurotechnology systems.

Innovative features include:

  • Neurotechnology software engineering experts.
  • Real time operating systems and wireless communication to allow technology to sense neural and body signals, interpret those signals and act upon the nervous system to restore or replace functions like lost vision, hearing or movement.
  • Robotics that can operate a range of autonomous systems from prosthetic hands to dexterous mechanical limbs that can feel and manipulate.
  • The platform also has advanced mechanical and electronics workshops to manufacture advanced device prototypes.
