GENEVA, 3 March 2020: The Wyss Center for Bio and Neuroengineering today announced the promotion of  Olivier Coquoz to Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Coquoz joined the Wyss Center in January 2017, bringing experience in new product development and project management. Over the past three years he has led one of the Center’s key programs to develop a miniaturized, implantable brain-computer interface to restore communication, and mobility for people with paralysis. Coquoz is now taking on COO duties, overseeing the Center’s operational activities and reporting to the Center’s Director Mary Tolikas.

“This is a crucial role as we continue to pursue the Center’s mission,” Tolikas said. “Olivier combines deep technical expertise with strong organizational skills and attention to detail. His leadership will ensure we follow our core purpose, while executing well across all our operations, and that we are ready to take on new challenges.”

In his new role, Coquoz will focus on strengthening the Center’s capabilities and in-house expertise, and continue developing the state-of-the-art facilities, to ensure the Wyss Center can capitalize on new projects and opportunities.

Coquoz has 20 years of experience in industry and has been involved in growing companies in Switzerland and the USA. He holds an MS degree in Engineering Physics from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, where he also obtained his PhD, specializing in the field of Biomedical Optics. Coquoz also holds a diploma of Advanced Studies in Project Management from the University of Geneva.
