Alain Woodtli

Alain Woodtli joined the Wyss Center in September 2015. He brings experience in next generation medical device innovation and engineering program management.

Alain works with the Wyss Center team and external partners to manage all projects within the Advanced Technology Program.

Career

Over the past 20 years, Alain has contributed to innovation in medical device design in small companies in the Western Switzerland ‘Health Valley’. His work has had a strong focus on the clinical use of newly developed medical devices with the University Hospitals of Lausanne and Zurich.

Alain founded two start-ups, the first develops fiber optic catheters for use in cancer treatment, and the second specializes in design and testing of active implants, and in laser micro-welding process development.

He gained significant experience in the regulatory path of medical devices by submitting clinical trials to ethical committees and competent authorities and establishing technical files for obtaining device approvals in Switzerland, the EU and the US. He also set up and maintained ISO 13485 certified quality management systems in five different companies.

Alain holds an MS in Physics from the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, where he further specialized in fiber optics and fiber lasers in the Institute of Microtechnology of Neuchatel research group, now part of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).
