Samira Osterop

Preclinical Neuroscience Platform Laboratory Technician | Platforms Team

Samira Osterop joined the Wyss Center in April 2019 as Preclinical Neuroscience Platform Laboratory Technician.

Her role is to ensure the smooth functioning of the Histology, Cell Culture and Molecular Biology laboratories of the platform. She takes care of training of the users, provides technical guidance and is responsible for the daily functioning of the laboratories and equipment.

Samira studied Biology at the University Paul Sabatier in Toulouse, France, before moving to Switzerland in 2012 to enroll in the masters in Neuroscience at the University of Geneva.
After finishing her master’s degree, she worked as a research assistant at the Department of Fundamental Neuroscience of the University of Geneva, in a laboratory focusing on the effect of anesthesia on the brain. She then spent two years working in a research laboratory at the Biomedicine Department of the University of Basel, in close collaboration with Roche. There she developed screening assays with the aim of discovering potent molecules to treat a neuromuscular disease called Myotonic Dystrophy type I.
These experiences allowed her to gain theoretical knowledge and a variety of technical skills in histology, molecular biology and cell culture.
